About Canada

Why choose Canada?

Canada is one of the world's most popular immigration destinations, welcoming over 400,000 new permanent residents annually. Known for its high quality of life, universal healthcare, excellent education system, and multicultural society, Canada offers numerous pathways to immigration through federal and provincial programs. The country spans 10 provinces and 3 territories, each with unique economic opportunities and lifestyle offerings. From the bustling tech hubs of Toronto and Vancouver to the affordable prairies of Saskatchewan and Manitoba, Canada provides options for every type of immigrant — skilled workers, entrepreneurs, students, and families. Canada's immigration system is points-based and transparent, primarily managed through the Express Entry system for economic immigration. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) ensures fair selection based on age, education, language skills, and work experience. Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) allow provinces to select immigrants who meet their specific labour market needs, adding 600 CRS points and virtually guaranteeing an invitation to apply.

How to Apply

Application process

Follow these steps to begin your immigration journey to Canada.

1

Research & Choose a Program
1–14 days

Explore the various immigration pathways available — Express Entry, Provincial Nominee Programs, Family Sponsorship, Atlantic Immigration, and more. Use the IRCC "Come to Canada" tool to determine which programs you qualify for.

Start by taking a free eligibility assessment to understand your best pathway.

2

Prepare Your Documents
30–120 days

Gather required documents including passport, language test results (IELTS/CELPIP for English, TEF/TCF for French), Educational Credential Assessment (ECA), work reference letters, proof of funds, and police certificates.

Start your ECA and language tests early — they can take 2-4 months to complete.

3

Submit Your Profile / Application
1–7 days

For Express Entry: create an online profile in the Express Entry pool. For PNP: apply directly to the province or through an Expression of Interest. For other programs: submit your application through the relevant channel.

Ensure all information is accurate — misrepresentation can lead to a 5-year ban.

4

Receive Invitation & Apply for PR
14–365 days

If your Express Entry score is above the draw cut-off, you'll receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA). Submit your complete permanent residence application with all supporting documents within 60 days.

Monitor draw results regularly. Consider improving your profile with better language scores or a PNP nomination.

5

Medical & Background Checks
14–60 days

Complete your immigration medical exam with an IRCC-designated panel physician. Provide police certificates from every country where you lived for 6+ months since age 18.

Book your medical exam early. Some countries have long processing times for police certificates.

6

Receive PR Confirmation & Land
14–90 days

If approved, you'll receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and a PR visa (if applicable). Enter Canada before the expiry date to complete your landing as a permanent resident.

Start planning your move — research housing, banking, and settlement services in your destination city.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The main pathways are: Express Entry (Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Trades), Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP), Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP), Family Sponsorship, Caregiver Programs, and Quebec-selected programs. Each has different eligibility requirements and processing times.

Processing times vary by program. Express Entry applications are typically processed within 6-8 months after receiving an ITA. Provincial nominations take 2-6 months, plus federal processing. Family sponsorship (spousal) takes about 12 months. The entire process from start to PR can take 8-18 months for most economic programs.

Key costs include: PR application fee ($1,365/person), Right of PR fee ($515/person), biometrics ($85/person), language test (~$300), ECA (~$220), medical exam (~$250), police certificates (~$50-100 each). Total for a single applicant is approximately $2,800-$3,500 CAD, excluding settlement funds you must show.

Express Entry is Canada's online immigration management system. Candidates are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) based on age, education, language skills, work experience, and other factors. The maximum score is 1,200 points. Regular draws invite the highest-ranked candidates to apply for PR. A provincial nomination adds 600 points.

Not necessarily. Express Entry (FSW and CEC) does not require a job offer, though having one earns extra CRS points (50-200). Some PNP streams and the Atlantic Immigration Program do require a job offer. Having Canadian work experience significantly boosts your chances.

For Express Entry FSW: minimum CLB 7 (IELTS 6.0 in each band). For CEC with NOC TEER 0/1: CLB 7. For CEC with TEER 2/3: CLB 5. Higher scores earn significantly more CRS points — CLB 9+ can add 50-100+ points to your ranking. French language skills also earn bonus points.

Yes. You can include your spouse/common-law partner and dependent children (under 22) in your PR application. They will also receive permanent residence. After becoming a PR, you can also sponsor parents, grandparents, and other eligible relatives through the Family Sponsorship program.

For Express Entry, you must show: 1 person — $14,690; 2 people — $18,288; 3 people — $22,483; 4 people — $27,297; 5 people — $30,690; 6 people — $34,613; 7+ people — $38,536 (2025/2026 amounts in CAD). You're exempt if you have a valid Canadian job offer or are currently working in Canada.
